AACOMAS Application [Davies Hall 105]
Come and learn about the new 2009 AACOMAS application process for the osteopathic medical schools from Gina M. Moses, MEd., Associate Director of Application Services and National Recruitment for the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM). Applications are significantly up this cycle, so be sure to attend this interactive session! Gina will go over the electronic application process and answer any questions you may have to make your process a smooth one.

Then come and find out from Naomi Mackie, Team Lead for Applicant & Advisor Relations in the Section for Application Services at AMCAS, what you need to know to submit a complete and successful medical school application.

Diversity in Medicine [Davies hall 220]
Do you know what diversity in medicine is? Do you know what medical schools are doing about it? Do you fear that you will not see people who come from the same background as you in medical school? Then come and hear from Dr. Ron Harris, Vice President for Health Sciences, and Dr. Edward P. Junkins, Assistant Dean, Diversity and Community Outreach.

Faculty Letter of Recommendation [Liberal Arts 166]
Are you worried about securing a great Letter of Recommendation? Do you know how to approach one of your faculty members? Do you know what is needed to gain a great letter of recommendation? Come and hear from Dr. Ken Kubo, Professor of Biology at American River College. He has written numerous letters of recommendations for students, and now has some of them are attending UCD, Stanford, and UCLA Medical Schools.

Financial Aid in Medical School: UCSF [Davies Hall 222]
Are you afraid you will not be able to afford medical school? Is this a concern that is stopping you from applying? Then this workshop is for you. Come and find out from Ron James, Director of Financial Aid at the UCSF School of Medicine, who will share with you all the information about programs and loans that will be available to you once you get to medical school. Access Group's goal is to provide greater access to affordable financing, and greater access to the information that can help students borrow wisely, manage debt responsibly, and repay loans successfully. Humanitarian Medicine [Davies Hall 210]
What is humanitarian medicine and why is it important? Join U.S. Navy Lieutenant Andy Baldwin, M.D. to discuss his experiences in humanitarian medicine and why you should get involved! Dr. Baldwin is an accomplished triathlete, community leader, motivator, and advocate for service in our world.

Loan Repayment Program [Davies Hall 214]
Are you interested in serving the underserved? Well, so is the NHSC and they're willing to reward you for it too! The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) is committed to improving the health of the Nation's underserved. One way that they are achieving this is by seeking fully trained health professionals who have qualifying educational loans. These individual are eligible to compete for repayment of those loans if they choose to serve in a community of greatest need. In addition to loan repayment, these clinicians receive a competitive salary and a chance to have a significant impact on a community. Come learn how a future with the NHSC might impact your future in medicine.

MD/Ph.D. Program [Davies Hall 218]
Have you ever heard what a physician scientist does? Or MD/PhD? Then come and find out from people who put their love of lab research and fuse it with their love of patient care and advance medicine forward. This workshop is led by Dr. McDade, Associate Dean for Multicultural Affairs and Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, who will talk about his work and opportunities for becoming a physician scientist.

Medical School 101 [Raef Hall 162]
Do you want to become a doctor but have no idea how to go about it? Join Ed Dagang, Director of Admission and Outreach at the UC Davis School of Medicine to discuss courses, activities, and other important information needed to successfully apply to medical school. Mr. Dagang has over 25 years of experience in medical school admission counseling!

Medical School Curriculum: Learning in Medical School [Davies Hall 115]

If you don't, then this is a great workshop for you to attend. Military Health Professional Scholarships [Davies Hall 225]

Osteopathic Medicine [Davies Hall 103]
Join Dr. James Binkerd and Dr. Haight to learn about Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and the extra tools Doctors of Osteopathy have compared to Allopathic Physician. This is a great workshop for you to explore in depth the field of Osteopathic Medicine.

Ph.D. Program - The Other Doctors [Liberal Arts 167]
Do you want to get involved in medicine, but hate blood and needles? Come checkout what the PhD program is all about. This workshop is presented by Dr. Jolly from UCSF, Ms. Ramos, and Dr. Nelson from Stanford University School of Medicine.

PRIME in UC Medical Schools [Davies Hall 224]
The UC medical education system is growing and changing through the creation of new programs that will increase medical student enrollment in new innovative ways. The Program in Medical Education (PRIME) programs will begin as five-year (M.D. and master's degree) programs offering specialized education, training and support for students who wish to acquire added skill and expertise as they pursue careers caring for people who suffer disproportionate disease burdens. Public Health and Joint Programs [Davies Hall 160]
Do you know what public health is? DO you know that all health is public? Do you know that you can both practice medicine and become an expert on public health by becoming an MD & MPH? Then come and hear from UC Berkeley and UC Davis Schools of Public Health about their joint MD/MPH program and all the opportunities available to you.

Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) [Davies Hall 226]
Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) is a FREE (full tuition, housing, and meals) six-week summer academic enrichment program that offers freshman and sophomore college students intensive and personalized medical and dental school preparation. Program offerings includes: academic enrichment in the basic sciences (organic chemistry, physics, biology) and pre-calculus/calculus, career development, learning-skills seminar, limited clinical exposure and a financial-planning workshop.

Spanish Immersion Program [Liberal Arts 168]
Are you interested in learning medical Spanish? Are you looking to get immersed in the culture? Do you want to study foreign medical systems? Do you have a desire to learn Spanish, but don't have time in your current pre-med courses? The join the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara and learn about all their programs and opportunities.

What Are Secondaries? [Davies Hall 114]
After you have done all your pre-med courses, taken the MCAT, written your personal statement, and sent in your medical school application, you will receive your secondaries. How should you proceed to avoid some common pitfalls? Come and familiarize yourself with sample secondary questions that you may see commonly used by various medical schools. This workshop is presented by Maureen Cullins, Director at the Multicultural Re source Center at Duke University's School of Medicine.

What is Residency in Medicine & Primary Care? [Davies Hall 104]
Do you know what happens after medical school? Do you know what is required of you? Do you know about 80-hour workweek? Then come and find out from Dr. Charles Vega, Residency Director in the Department of Family Medicine at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, about residency programs and what is expected from you after medical school.

Women in Medicine [Davies Hall 207]
Come, hear, and meet some amazing women who balance their career in medicine, family, and friendship and do wonderful things. If you feel that balancing a life and a career in medicine is impossible, then this panel of amazing women will tell you differently. Note: men are also welcome to attend this workshop!

Your Past and Background [Davies Hall 219]
Have you ever thought about how to relate your past and background to your application when you write your personal statement? In part, the way you show who you are both on paper and at your interviews will determine for the medical school application. Medicine is about treating other people and treatment still includes personal interaction. If you don't, then attend and listen to Dr. Calloway from University, F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine.

Naturopathic medicine is a mode of primary health care based on the concept of honing and promoting the body's self-healing process. It emphasizes prevention of sickness over fighting its developed symptoms. Phytothrapy, or treatment by use of plants, serves as a highlight of this branch of medicine. Learn more about naturopathic medicine by attending this workshop led by Dr. Heather Zeickey, Dean of Research at the National College of Natural Medicine and Director of the Helfgott Research Institute.

Nontraditional Student Panel [Liberal Arts 168]
Are you a nontraditional student? Do you think you are too old to become a doctor? Has your path to medicine been anything but "traditional?" If so please come and meet our non-traditional student guests who are currently in medical school and learn how they achieved their goals and how you can do the same.

Study Abroad [Davies Hall 216]
If you are interested in study abroad, come to this workshop. Study abroad is a wonderful opportunity to live in and explore another culture in the safest possible situation. The rewards to students are life long and include the opportunity to acquire a level of global competence recommended by the US Congress and valued by transfer institutions and employers. Students take regular community college classes from professors in the consortium. The consortium is made up of all four Los Rios colleges, College of San Mateo, Santa Rosa Junior College, and Diablo Valley College, and professors from those colleges apply and are selected to teach the same courses, obviously in English, that they teach here. All of the courses are transfer level courses so students make excellent progress toward their graduation and transfer goals. In addition, you learn and develop so much more knowledge, skills, abilities and values.
